As heard on
It is a safe, non-invasive medical treatment where a patient is immersed in a 100% oxygen environment while they are in a pressurized oxygen chamber.
The pressure affects the body at a cellular level, increasing the presence of oxygen and aiding the body’s natural healing process. The pressure also allows oxygen to aid bone and tissue regeneration, increases white blood cell formation, and promotes the creation of peripheral and capillary vessels.
Prior to the start of each treatment, a basic physical is performed. The experience while in the chamber is quiet and comfortable as you relax watching your flat screen TV or listening to music. During your treatment, you may experience pressure in both of your ears that is similar to what you would feel during an airplane’s ascent and descent.
The length of the treatment depends on the condition being treated. Treatment session times can range from 60-120 minutes.
Generally, patients experience no side or after-effects from hyperbaric oxygen therapy. However, some patients may experience mild side effects (the most common being ear and sinus squeeze, or temporary visual changes).
Please call us for more information to see if you qualify for our hyperbaric oxygen therapy grant awards program and to arrange for a tour of a local hyperbaric oxygen therapy facility.
You can join the HOW Foundation in advocating for and providing access to hyperbaric oxygen therapy by donating to the HOW Foundation online or by mail, sponsoring treatment for a friend or loved one, sharing your story if you have experienced hyperbaric oxygen therapy, or by joining us as a hyperbaric oxygen therapy advocate.
